China Southern Airlines participates in Russian free route trials
Airspace Structure Enhancement Group negotiated with the leading air carriers of the People's Republic of China on their participation in Free Route Airspace (FRA) trials in the oceanic sector of Magadan ACC. Hence, China Southern Airlines - Asia’s largest air carrier - changed routes for its regular flights: Toronto - Guangzhou and New York - Guangzhou.
According to the airline, the estimated savings resulting from five flights operated on preferred routes were 3000 kg fuel and 40 minutes of flight time with significant reduction in CO2 emissions. Earlier, United Airlines, AirBridgeCargo and Korean Air participated in the similar FRA trials conducted in Magadan ACC oceanic sector within the area of responsibility of the North-East Air Navigation branch of State ATM Corporation.
Airspace Structure Enhancement Group is headed by Mr. Yuri Tokarev, Deputy Director General of State ATM Corporation. The interim results of the trials prove the FRA capacity to enhance flexible use of airspace while promoting air traffic growth and reducing airlines costs.
