Navigation and landing system at Rostov-on-Don Airport
The information that appeared in the press alleging that “South Air Navigation” Branch of FSUE “ATM Corporation” uses obsolete air navigation facilities at Rostov-on-Don airport, which do not “allow aircraft to conduct automatic approaches” and have not been modernized “in ages”, is completely untrue.

At present, the following navigation and landing systems are operational at Rostov-on-Don airport:
1. Instrument landing system type SP-80М, with magnetic heading of 038 degrees. Its technical characteristics meet service documentation specifications and Category II ICAO (30х350 minimum). The last flight inspection was performed on 15 April 2015, no deviations found.
2. Instrument landing system type SP-80М, with magnetic heading of 218 degrees. Its technical characteristics meet service documentation specifications and Category I ICAO (60x80). The last flight inspection was performed on 25 May 2015, no deviations found.
Both systems provide automatic approach for aircraft with appropriate airborne equipment.
3. Doppler VHF Omnidirectional Radio Range DVOR-2000/DME-2000. Its technical characteristics meet service documentation specifications, it is used as a primary short-distance NAVAID or additional means for approach and landing for civil aircraft. The last flight inspection was performed on 25 May 2015, no deviations found.
4. Local augmentation station LKKS-A-2000. Its technical characteristics meet service documentation specifications. The last flight inspection was performed on 12 April 2014, no deviations found.
5. Outer and inner markers that ensure guidance of aircraft in the terminal area, conducting final maneuvers and maintaining final approach course, meet all technical specifications as well.
6. Flight inspections are performed by a Beechcraft King Air 350i flying lab owned by “Aerocontrol” Branch of State ATM Corporation. The aircraft is equipped with AD-AFIS-112 system manufactured by Aerodata AG, the global leader in the sphere of flight inspection technologies. According to the inspections results, no deviations from specifications were found.
It should be emphasized, that during the last month there were no reports of ILS MKp-38 and MKp-218 as well as other landing equipment malfunctions from the flight crews.
