Russian Air Traffic Controllers Become European Football Cup Champions for the Sixth Time
The 52nd European Controllers Cup took place from 20 to 24 May in Moscow at Luzhniki sports complex. 41 teams from 24 countries of the Old World competed for the Cup. Russia was represented by two teams from FSUE “State ATM Corporation”: Russia and Moscow.
At the first stage, the participants competed in eight groups on a round robin basis; Russia were drawn into Group B and Moscow into Group F. Both Russian teams confidently made it through the group stage, ranking first in their respective groups. The playoff stage started with the round of 16, where the teams had to win to move further, which they successfully did. In the round of 16, Russia and Moscow both secured a 2-0 victory against Romania and Corfu, respectively. In the quarterfinals, Russia defeated Portugal 5-0, while Moscow won 2-0 over the combined Barcelona and Canary Islands team. Both teams survived arduous semi-finals, where Russia beat Minsk 2-0, and Moscow scored a hard-earned close victory (1-0) over the Tournament’s multiple champions, Reims.
The two Russian teams therefore clashed in the final of this important air navigation industry Tournament, where Russia won 1-0.
We congratulate both our teams on their success, and team Russia on their well-deserved victory.
