Russian Joint ATM System is 45
Today the Joint Air Traffic Management System of the Russian Federation is celebrating 45 years of its establishment. On 16 February 1973, the Decree of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and USSR Council of Ministers № 130-49 providing for the enhancement of civil aviation flight safety, tasked the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Ministry of Defense to establish the Joint Air Traffic Control System for both civil and military aviation within the period of 1973-1980.
The Russian Joint Air Traffic Management System is of strategic importance and considered as an essential element of maintaining Russia’ national security, providing airspace safety, and ensuring a required safety level. The purpose of the Joint ATM System is to manage airspace utilization and provide air navigation services. The Joint ATM System operates within the airspace of the Russian Federation and in those areas, where the responsibility for ATM provision and control of compliance with national and international requirements, standards, norms and procedures of airspace management is delegated to the Russian Federation in accordance with the international agreements of the Russian Federation. The Joint ATM System consists of the Managing body, Operational units, facilities and maintenance services. Operational units include the Main center, Zonal centres and Area centres.
Mr. Igor Moiseenko, Director General of the FSUE “State Air Traffic Management Corporation of the Russian Federation”, congratulated all the staff of the national air navigation services provider, as well as veterans and civil aviation workers on the 45th anniversary. Celebrations were held in the Head Office and branches.
