State ATM Corporation Director General Presents at Arctic General Aviation Workshop

As part of the action plan under the Russian chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021–2023, a workshop on general aviation was held on 2–3 December in Moscow. The event was organized by the Russian Ministry of Transport together with the Federal Air Transport Agency (FATA) and operated by the Roscongress Foundation.

The workshop was attended by heads of FATA departments, representatives of transport authorities and organizations of the Arctic Council member states, the Arctic Council Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG) and Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response (EPPR) Working Group, as well as representatives of indigenous small-numbered peoples of the Arctic region.

During the two days, the workshop participants addressed topics such as the Arctic route network enhancement, development of air operations, integration of unmanned aerial vehicles, search and rescue coordination among Arctic states.

State ATM Corporation Director General Igor Moiseenko delivered presentations entitled ‘Status and Development Prospects of Air Navigation Services and the Route Network in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation’ and ‘Development of Air Connectivity in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation and the Far East: Up in the Air’. In his presentations, Mr. Moiseenko elaborated on the status of air navigation services in the region, the route network development, CNS equipment modernization plans, implementation of advanced ATS technologies, and practical steps to make Russia’s airspace more attractive for air operators.

The outcomes of the workshop on general aviation in the Arctic region will be included in the agenda of subsequent meetings of the Arctic Council Working Group on Sustainable Development.
