International Meeting of ANSPs on Cross-Polar and Trans-Eastern Routes Completes Its Work

The 22nd international meeting of the Cross-Polar Working Group (CPWG/22) took place on 24 – 27 October 2016 in Paris, France.

The 22nd international meeting of the Cross-Polar Working Group (CPWG/22) took place on 24 – 27 October 2016 in Paris, France.

About 60 delegates took part in the meeting, representing ANSPs of Denmark, Iceland, Canada, China, Norway, the Russian Federation, the USA, Finland, as well as airlines operating flights on Cross-Polar and Trans-Eastern routes. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). 

The meeting discussed over 30 working and information papers and presentations, considered issues regarding further development of Cross-Polar and Trans-Eastern routes, improvement of air traffic services quality, reduction of lateral and longitudinal separation, implementation of automation facilities, crew and ATS unit actions in emergency situations, including volcanic activity.

The Russian delegation presented documents on its airspace structure developments and announced new corridors at Russia – Iceland and Russia – USA FIR borders that will be available starting from February 2017, as well as new airways on Trans-Eastern and Cross-Polar directions.

In the course of discussions, the representatives of IATA, ICAO and airlines expressed their appreciation for the work carried out by Russia and FSUE “State ATM Corporation” to establish optimal routes for airspace users operating flights on the specified routes.

The next meeting will be held in spring 2017.
